The 11th program of the chamber concert and talks cycle COME PRIMA in Riga is going to feature the premiere performance of "Music for the Legends", the Lisbon Guitar Quartet's latest creation. It consists of tributes to various personalities from the music world – for example, the musical world of Arvo Pärt; José Afonso, considered to be the most prominent Portuguese revolutionary singer; great rock bands such as the Beatles, the Doors, U2, Queen and other bands and musicians who inspired the quartet to compose their sizeable "Suite of the Legends".
The concert will be hosted by Dāvis Eņģelis, a musical expert hosting the "Classics" radio show on Latvijas Radio 3.
The Lisbon Guitar Quartet is one of the most prominent ensembles of Portugal. A guitar quartet has not yet had a long history with chamber music, and that is why a repertory of original music is a rare phenomenon for a band thus comprised, even in the great guitar superpowers. The concert program is going to feature music composed specially for ensembles of this line-up, with diverse stylistic language, as the quartet maintains cooperation with composers of different generation, most of whom are recognised guitar masters. Some of the compositions intended for presentation at the concert were composed by two artists of the Lisbon Guitar quartet – José Dias and André Santos, who demonstrate a very personal and immediate sense of their instruments and abundant musical experience in their performance.
The concert is going to feature:
André Santos, 1984
Miguel Vieira da Silva, 1984
José Dias, 1978
Pedro Luís, 1985
